Abusive Partners
Why abusive partners, tend not to face theirs abusive behavior and overreact, when asked about it?
Oops sorry. When I first replied, I thought it said parent not partner. Need new glasses. So, my answer is still somewhat the same…Denial. If they talk about it, they may have to admit that it’s their fault (and not the abused) and then they’d actually have to change things, which is terrifying for an abusive person. My mom is abusive and I just don’t talk to her about it anymore because it triggers a huge attack on me. I just keep her at arms length, but that’s easy because I live in a different state with my family. . For my mom, she was molested when she was 12 by a relative and when she spoke up about it, they all blamed her! So, pretty sad, really, for her. She’s just passing on what she knows. Fortunately I sought therapy so that I didn’t continue in abusive relatioships as an adult. Good luck.
